MYKITA & Bernhard Willhelm “JANIS” in Pigeon Blue

“JANIS” is still one of the most sought-after models of the MYKITA & Bernhard Willhelm collection and with its larger-than-life, perfectly round form, has become the go-to style for the fashion-forward crowd, glam celebs and other design aficionados.

For all the women out there looking for some inspiration on how to up the ante this spring/summer season, we recommend you glean some fashion tips from Annie! A fine example of a fresh, feminine look well executed by mixing pieces of different styles and sensibility. Here she is wearing “CYRIL”, our new PICK OF THE WEEK!

Annie wears “CYRIL”

Originally from Sweden and currently living in Berlin, Annie is one of the most recent additions to the family at MYKITA HAUS. Her wardrobe is a carefully curated collection of garments with very different styles and has many pieces that one is more likely to find in a man’s wardrobe. Her appreciation of men’s tailoring focuses on classic button-down shirts, which have become something like her signature style.

A subtle approach to a gender-bending look is a good way to define her aesthetic. In this case, she pairs the sporty frame “CYRIL” with an airy, printed blouse. Coupled with the right attitude and the whimsical backdrop of a sunny afternoon in the park, this look is all freshness and femininity!

MYKITA COLLECTION NO.2 “CYRIL”

MYKITA’s eyewear proposals for the current spring/summer season feature a fusion of 1930s and 1970s styling elements for a sporting, vintage look. In that sense, “CYRIL”, a model of the MYKITA COLLECTION NO.2, is a fusion of panto and aviator forms dating from the early period of this design vocabulary.

The design is in accordance with the “form follows function” principle; the subtle second bridge adds structural stability, while also providing the critical styling element of the sporting look. “CYRIL” comes in the colours Tortuga with green lenses, as well as in Tobago, Taupe and Black with brown, grey and black gradient lenses.

“CYRIL” and the other models comprising the MYKITA COLLECTION NO.2 are available at all MYKITA Shops, selected opticians and fashions stores around the world. For more information, please visit our website.

A special cameo by MYKITA in the German film "Hai Alarm am Müggelsee"

Described by one of the directors as a “punk rock comedy” but considered by many as plain satire inspired by Spielberg’s “Jaws” (1975), the new film “Hai-Alarm am Müggelsee”(literally “Shark alarm at the Müggelsee”) makes a hilarious and slightly ludicrous story out of what otherwise could be considered a tragic incident – the town’s poor lifeguard gets his hand bitten off in a mysterious incident at the lake.

The story takes place on the outskirts of Berlin and deals with the reaction of the local population and government to the alleged shark attack.

Hai-Alarm poster

Black will always be the new black. And Yoshi, who recently entered our team at the MYKITA HAUS as a graphic design intern, sure knows she can count on it. She presents “SUSE”, our new PICK OF THE WEEK!

Yoshi wears “SUSE”

A member of an increasingly rare species – the born and raised Berliner – Yoshi returned to the city some months ago, after having completed her studies in visual communication. As a designer she has a keen eye for details and her sober approach to personal style is a reflection of that.

“SUSE” is part of the COLLECTION NO2, MYKITA’s acetate sunglasses range. The basic round shape, almost a perfect circle, can be regarded as a more subtle and easier-to-pull-off take on the oversized seventies-inspired frames.

“SUSE” in Ruby Red with Black Gradient lenses

The gradient lenses and the metallic detail of MYKITA’s signature patented hinge system are perfectly accentuated by the classic colour palette of the frames: Black, Ruby Red, Chocolate Chips and Tobago. Because as you know, when dealing with basics, the devil is in the detail.

“SUSE” and the other models comprising the MYKITA COLLECTION NO.2 are available at all MYKITA Shops, selected opticians and fashions stores around the world.
The evolution of the MYLON frames began with a new production process that promised to revolutionize the history of design when it launched in the late 1990s: Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) enables the creation of three-dimensional objects according to 3d digital data. Today SLS is primarily used to make prototypes, with only few sintered products having become everyday commercial items. In 2007, MYKITA began experimenting with the polyamide material, aiming to pioneer it in the production of spectacles. After years of research, we have developed a complex process that creates a sophisticated finish in several steps and gives the frames a unique visual and tactile appeal.

Achtung, Achtung: Look out for this exciting new editorial! Out now is the latest edition (No. 24) of ACHTUNG by Markus Ebener, one of the smartest German fashion magazines.

The subject of sin (yes, doing bad things is what were referring to here) is the inspirational theme of the May issue, and in the guide to the most sinful beach accessories for the upcoming summer season, our own devilishly cool and sporty MYKITA Mylon sunnies “Pelot” in British Racing Green can be seen in their rightful element!

This fashion editorial is beautifully staged by Gregor Hohenberg at the famed indoor pool of James Simon in Berlin Mitte. The inspiration for the shoot comes from the atmosphere of the 20s Bauhaus bathhouse itself and Nefertiti, a Queen of the Nile, who served as the architect’s muse while he was constructing this beautifully lit, indoor swimming pool. In summary: these images are sure to get you in the right mood for sunglasses, swimwear, swimming-pools, sunbathing and all the other summer-sins that goes with the territory…

Have you ever kissed a rapper before?

This is the question that sets the mood for Fettes Brot's latest single "KussKussKuss". Take a look at the video and check out how the boys sport their favourite MYKITA glasses.

Have you ever kissed a rapper before?

That’s the question we’re all asking ourselves after hearing Fettes Brot‘s latest single “KussKussKuss”. The track is best described in their own words, as a “short open source history of electro hip hop from 1983 to 2013″ and also “techno-nonsense loaded with quotations, allusions and own contributions” at the same time.

FETTES BROT wearing MYKITA

Known and loved across the German land, this hip hop/pop rap trio has been knocking about, raising a racket since 1992. Members König Boris, Dokter Renz and Björn Beto have been devoted fans of MYKITA since the brand’s inception.

At a gig early on in the band’s history a keen supporter called the trio “Fettes Brot” (literally ‘fat bread’) as an expression of his appreciation. Now, “Fett” is German slang for ‘excellent’ but the term as a whole is a little bizarre, which of course was right up these guys’ alley. The name stuck and 20 years later Fettes Brot remarkable longevity in this industry has them referring to themselves as “Hamburg’s hip hop dinosaurs”.

When heading back to the office after a sunny lunch break in our hood this noon, we ran into Jay, our inhouse Apple-IT specialist. His favourite style for this spring and THE PICK OF THE WEEK is model EMIL from the MYKITA NO2 SUN collection.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, he joint the MYKITA family a couple of months ago. His well tanned skin fits the new acetate colour Misty Green perfectly.

The two balloon-style frames EGON and EMIL are setting new standards while breaking with established eyewear conventions. The artistic onus here is on exaggeration; the supersized frame lines resemble the work of contemporary artists Jeff Koons and Erwin Wurm and trigger associations ranging from ‘bold type’ to ‘swimming ring’.

EGON Misty Green & EMIL Taupe

Both frames come in the Misty Green and Misty Blue colours as well as in Taupe, Puddle and Black.

Both styles are now available in all MYKITA Shops worldwide, as well as in selected optical and concept stores.

When Design Hotels™ paired up with Finding Infinity on their road to a future of never ending resources, MYKITA came on board to support the project. The result is “MYKITA for finding infinity”.

MYKITA and Design Hotels™ have long been moving in the same circles. Both based in Berlin, the two companies share a pioneering, progressive attitude to design – whether it’s applied to eyewear or to hospitality.

When Design Hotels™ paired up with the grassroots organization Finding Infinity on their road to a future of renewable resources, MYKITA came on board to support the project with its mascot, a pair of glasses to characterize the initiative. And so the frames “MYKITA for Finding Infinity” came into being.

MYKITA for Finding Infinity

The shape of “MYKITA for Finding Infinity” model’s shape is inspired by the figure 8, a symbol of infinity and the initiative’s logo. The aviator glasses’ black frame is made of an ecofriendly, recyclable and biodegradable acetate material. The golden hinge, a patented MYKITA system, matches the bright and distinctive yellow lens.

Finding Infinity & MYKITA

The glasses will become the insignia for the “Design Hotels™ is finding infinity” initiative, and will be worn by the team of filmmakers, photographers, journalists and engineers as they travel across Europe on an extended road trip and event series to inspire member hotels and the larger ommunity to become a part of this future. Anyone who wants to show their support for the project and wear inspired design in the process, are very welcome to the frames too!
