| They look like glasses…
Text by Eduardo Souto de Moura I like the Mykita glasses, because they look like glasses…, they are right away identifiable and they avoid any wondering, any comparing, any questioning about the identity of the object. They are obvious and trivial, they can be part of us, of our daily lives. Everyday, from dawn until dusk, we have problems to solve and we use whatever means we have at hand. We need, for instants, a toothbrush, a watch, a telephone, glasses, a pen, and so on… Think of a Bic that looks like a Parker or a Parker that looks like an Aurora. Think of blue jeans that are not Levi’s 501 or running shoes that are not Reebok Classics. What matters is to hold a paper, a pen, a pair of glasses and not be aware of their existence, that they are not heavy, too present in our daily scores. What matters is that they are light and will not change or get ruined by constant handling. As Aldo Rossi would say “a bridge can’t fall down”. The Mykita glasses, for what I could see, work. They are classy without being fancy, they work and have something that is very important: they make us feel safe because… Because “they look like glasses”. |
